This one's for you :)

Banaue, 2014

A photograph from a shooting trip in the rice terraces 2 weeks ago.

It was an opportunity that I didn't notice until it presented itself to me.

We were there early enough with the sun still behind that mountain.

Without light, that side of the terraces just looked like a jumble of steps and stripes.  Very flat with nothing standing out.

It's when the light moves in conjunction with the passing clouds that forms and shapes start to appear.

And so it was with this one.  As the sun made its way over the mountains, top light falls on the shoulders of the terraces presenting to us a pyramid-like structure in a perfect triangle that would only last for a couple of minutes.

I had the wrong lens on and flare was very difficult to control.

My friend sees the magic and notices the sadness in our eyes as we had only 50mm as the longest focal length that we have.

Then he says, "C'mon, guys, you can't miss this one, Here..."

He hands me his 90mm.  My frown turns into a smile.  It was just the right length for this opportunity.

"Be sure to put your hand on directly over the lens hood to minimize flare".

What a friend!

Like precious water drops in the Sahara, I took my sip real fast and hollered to our other friend to try out the 90 while the light was still out there on the shoulders.

We got our shots.

I was reminded of the friendship that we have over here where collectors in a GTG would pass around their toys for everyone to share.

This one is for all the mods and friends at PPro.  My little way of saying thank you for all the love and passion shared!

Best,

Echi

Yes, I did crop this photograph to 16:9. Reason being was that there was flare at the bottom! Too much flare,in fact, that putting my hand right on top of the hood wasn't enough and showed itself at the bottom left! I agree about viewing devices. On my of...

I have always liked wide formats (crops)...

such as the digital broadcast TV standard (16:9 / 1.77:1) and even more so the widescreen cinema standard (2.39:1). There's quite a story behind the different image formats, best left for another time ;-). I use to have a film camera that had a panorama o...
